Dear AT&T Friends:
This year marks the fourth anniversary of the AT&T Tennessee African-American History Calendar,
created to profile noteworthy citizens and events that have greatly contributed to our state’s rich
history. Since 2009, in addition to honoring those who have had a compelling impact on the lives of
Tennesseans, the calendar has also provided educators with the opportunity to teach students about
the significant role African-Americans have played in the history of our state and nation.
The distinguished African-Americans in this year’s calendar served their communities with humility
and impassioned dedication and have garnered accolades in arts and entertainment, music, sports,
business, education, medicine, law, politics and government, religion, and civil rights.
These celebrated citizens have touched lives with their earnest labor, and have awakened and
revived neighborhoods and institutions across the state. We hope this calendar will continue to
educate and motivate our younger generations as it serves as a testament to each individual’s
potential to engage in extraordinary service that can truly transform a community and make the
world a better place.
From musicians to physicians, educators to entrepreneurs, our honorees cover a broad spectrum
and have had a positive impact on our heritage. We are proud to pay tribute and respect to these
great trailblazers in the AT&T 2012 Tennessee African-American History Calendar.
Sincerely,
Gregg Morton
President
