Dear Friend of AT&T:
It has been 50 years since the Tennessee Sit-ins occurred. The courageous students and community leaders who peacefully made a stand for equal rights changed Tennessee and helped change our nation. In 2010, we will celebrate this great human victory - one of the pivotal movements in the civil rights era - and the role Tennessee African-Americans played in making history. It is with great pride that AT&T Tennessee presents the 2nd annual African-American History Calendar for the State of Tennessee.
The 2010 calendar pays tribute to trailblazers such as Dr. Dorothy Brown, who became the first African-American female surgeon and state legislator in the state. Dr. Brown paved the way for one of Tennessee’s current most powerful political leaders Speaker Pro Tempore Lois DeBerry. We honor both women in this calendar.
Our honorees cover the spectrum in terms of their global impact on the world today. From computer technology, photography and religion, the 2010 calendar honorees will shine a brilliant spotlight on the talent created and nurtured in Tennessee.
Congratulations to this year’s honorees and thank you to our advisory board members and the citizens who nominated these outstanding Tennesseans.
Gregg Morton
President
